NEW PROJECT NEAR PHILLY

I started a new project near Philadelphia Pa. The Canton
Ga. project is complete from my companies scope of work,
so another superintendent was assigned to see to the clients
needs until we get a CO (cert. of occupancy). This allowed
me to start an 8 plex dinner style theater for a client I did
work for in Ohio.

FINISH LINE

We poured the stadium seating steps and a handicap
ramp outside at our new exit today. Our ceramic tile
and painting contractor have started. We also have
started the finish carpentry and handrail installation.

I have the light at the end of the tunnel in sight with
my reward being on a plane headed for home Friday
11/19. Today is my 25th straight day in a row that I
have worked, 7 more and I will be home for 9 days.

For those who know me thru work or my extended family
know I put blinders on and become obsessed with the
project at hand. It is almost time to relax and be a
regular guy again. SWEET!

After the Thanksgiving Holiday I will come back and
help the cinema with all there owner furnished and
supplied items. Then I meet with the city building
department and fire marshall, we will do a life
and safety walk, handle all paper work and get a final
and head to the next project.

FYI The auditorium will be done on time on my part,
it will be up to the cinema when they complete there
items as to when they open it to the public.

THINGS ARE HEATING UP ON A COLD DAY

29 degrees wgen I arrived at 6am. BRRRR. We are pushing for
the finish line. We pour the rest of the stadium seats and ramps
Monday. The ceramic tile contractor, painters and handrails
start next week. We starting the finish carpentry today.
Things are looking good. I have worked 20 straight days
and will not have a day off until I fly home 11/19. While I am
home the cinema will start installing curtains, sound panels,
carpet and seats. Life is good.

LOCAL NEWSPAPER

I had a local newspaper stop by to ask about doing a
story on the conversion to Big D. The young guy who
came by was pretty fired up about having a big screen
coming to his neighborhood.

TIGHT SCHEDULE

We are on track to finsh 11/15, but with the schedule being
so tight any bumps along the way could throw us behind.
Canton Georgia is one of the nicer places I have worked in
a long time. Southern Hospitality at its finest. The local
people along with the theater staff are so friendly I can't
help but smile.

CRUNCH TIME

Every job has a crunch time and this project has reached it. 26
days to complete this project and I am feeling froggy.

BIG D ENTRY

We are framing and roughing the electric in the new
entry. The fire sprinkler sub has not started yet,
which holds up raising the promenade ceiling to 9'.
This is a small wrinkle that will be old news next
week. This week will determine weather we make
our completion date.

CANTON DEMO

We are demo-ing the new entrance to the Big D auditorium. This
project is unique in that it is a single auditorium, no lobby
or concession shut down. If it were not for the tight schedule
this job would be a breeze. I am fortunate to have 2 great
subs on site so far, electric and framing. These 2 trades dictate
whether a job is smooth and successful. So far,so good.

OHIO STATE

I forgot to mention the Buckeyes are now ranked #1.

That did NOT last long. I now am hoping for the Bucks
in the Rose Bowl, if not Michigan State has not gone lately.

CONSULTING PART 2

My weekend consultation went well. The single screen can be
divided into a twin screen with stadium seating! My client
was very happy with the news, now I will give him a budget
with three different options to work from. He then can decide
what works best for him or possible not afford it.

CONSULTING

This weekend I am looking at the feasibility
of splitting an auditorium to add another
screen for a client. Hopefully I can still catch
the Buckeyes game and some playoff baseball.
XM radio was invented for people like me.

Off the road for a short period.

I am back in the office temporarily. I have drove 2500 miles in
the last 8 days. I have spent the night in Ohio, Tennessee, South
Carolina, Florida and Georgia. Also drove thru Alabama and Kentucky
without stopping for the night. OUCH! This blog helps me keep track
of all the things I do, otherwise it turns into a blur.
Anyway I start a renovation in Columbus Ohio as soon as the permits
are issued.

On the road

I was on the road 2/3 until late 2/4/10. I went to Columbus
Ohio to meet with a theater rep on a possible renovation job.
Things went well but nothing is 100% until we recieve a contract.
I got a chance to spend time with a PM from our company I have not
worked with yet. Time well spent and I really look forward to
working with him. I have a bid day today on a upscale cinema
in Virginia and then I am off to Florida to address a roof look
from a earlier project of mine. I am looking forward to getting
out of the cold.
